about grochau cellars

Grochau Cellars is a labor of love for John Grochau and his wife, Kerri. John has been fortunate enough to learn the trade from some of the Willamette Valley’s finest winemakers. He began his career working his way from the bottom up at Erath Winery. He then spent four years as Doug Tunnel’s assistant at Brick House Wines.

Building on these years of study and experience, and fueled by a deep love of Oregon, John and Kerri founded Grochau Cellars in 2002. They set out with a desire to create wines anchored in their Oregon homeland. They approach each vintage with the same goals: create complex, genuine wines true to their origins and to the distinct flavors of Oregon.

To achieve this, they use only grapes grown with non-interventionist farming techniques (organic when feasible, sustainably focused, environmentally sensitive). They approach winemaking with the same philosophy - in his words, they “Resist the urge to do too much.” They instead prefer “minimal handling” to better allow the character of their beloved Oregon to elegantly shine through.

The ultimate goal is always to craft the kind of wines they hope to drink at the end of the day, ones that are pure, precise, true to their roots and delicious.
